Oelation is the use of oil both externally and internally to prepare the body for cleansing. It is the first-step in the five-part panchakarma therapy.

We use essential oils mixed with a base oil. Both oils are selected based on your personal prakrti (constitution) and vikrti (current state of balance/imbalance).The base oil may be castor oil, ghee, sesame oil, almond oil, or similar. Commonly used essential oils include juniper, lavender, ginger, sandalwood, mint, and basil.

For internal use, one drop of essential oil is added to a few tablespoons of base oil. This mixture is consumed daily for a few days to prepare your digestive system for the cleansing therapies to come. The same mixture, but with a higher concentration of the essential oil, is used externally to soften the body and prepare the skin and soft tissues for sweat therapy.

Once the body is properly lubricated, purgation can begin.
